Shifting family dynamics can be overwhelming and emotional. For many, it is difficult to know where to start or what to expect. Our aim is simple – to treat you the way we would like to be treated if in your situation. We take the time to actively listen and find out what is most important to you.
We will answer your questions , explain the law and provide pragmatic advice designed to help you achieve your goals in the most efficient manner possible.
Optimally, this can be achieved through negotiation or partaking in some form of an alternative dispute resolution mechanism. That said, we will recommend advancing a court proceeding on your behalf, or will defend one for you , if the situation calls for it.
Background
Erin received her J.D. from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law in 2011. She has been practicing family law since her call to the bar in 2012. Erin provides counsel in all areas of family law including parenting issues, child and spousal support, equalization and complex property disputes. Erin’s experience includes advocating in court on behalf of her clients as well as negotiating agreements and assisting clients through alternate dispute resolution processes such as mediation and arbitration.
Erin is a trained Collaborative lawyer. She became interested in the negotiation-based, collaborative process after years of witnessing the significant emotional and financial impact that the family court system can have on families. Whenever appropriate, Erin promotes this process as an efficient method of resolving family law disputes that also serves to preserve, not further damage ongoing family relationships.
In addition to her family law practice, Erin has a keen interest in fertility law. Erin provides independent legal advice to potential gamete donors and surrogates wishing to assist intended parents grow their family through assisted or third-party reproduction. Erin helps to ensure their interests have been thoroughly considered and that any fertility contracts entered into accurately reflects the intentions of all parties involved.
